Have I ever told you guys about how I am an organized procrastinator? No? Well, there you go. My name is Meghan and I'm the worst organized procrastinator. This means that I will plan out every detail, to a tee weeks and possibly months before said thing has to be done. But when it comes to actually executing the list? Well, you'll probably find me somewhere in a tiny ball  in dark corner working away at one o'clock in the morning the day of whatever it is that needs to be done. I don't know why I am this way, but I am. (I think it's because I do my best work under pressure) Hello 3rd place History Fair winner!

If all of this sounds redundant, well it's about to get even more so, because I've done it again! I have waited a week and a half before the date to plan Dakota's 3rd birthday party. In my defense, I was planning a rather lovely baby shower (if I do say so myself!) and Dakota's birthday party is 11 days before her actual birthday. So...One other thing you should know about me is that I l.o.v.e themes. They are my jam. I only came up with one this past Sunday, so.... In my true organized nature, I made this little board to show everything I will (want) to get accomplished, and what they party will (I hope) look like! The party is this Saturday, so if I'm absent the next few days, you know why! ha!

BABY SHOWER INSPIRATION

My sister, Angela, is having a baby boy in August! She is due the day after Dakota was born. Dakota was born on Stephen's step dad's birthday, and my brothers birthday is the day before Dakota's. The first week of August is jam packed with birthdays and babies, and I'm so excited to that there will be another in just a few months time! I'm currently trying to plan the most awesome baby shower ever. They are planning a nautical nursery, so that's what I'm carrying on in theme throughout the baby shower. To say I am excited would be a gross understatement. I am ecstatic. I really love planning parties, gathering inspiration, and I think I do like being a host too. ;) Here is the inspiration I created for planing her shower!

My main focus was to not collect silly themed things that I knew she'd never use again. Almost every decor item we bought had a place already designed in the nursery or will easily transition into it. I'm just so excited! The sooner I finish this, the sooner I can go buy stuff for the baby, which is really what I want to do!

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.

We've decided that we are going to give Dakota a new big girl room for her birthday! Well, that was the plan anyway when I made this little board two months ago! Within the last few weeks, Dakota has learned to get in and out of her crib, open her door whenever she pleases, and get out way after mom and dad are fast asleep and roam the house silently. No joke, this past Saturday we found her in the living room passed out on the floor with a flashlight in her hand. I guess even Dora the Explorer needs a few hours of sleep! ;) As you can imagine, we've made the switch from crib to big girl bed faster than I expected.

Anyway, her room was is u.l.t.r.a baby girly. Pinks, browns, and creams everywhere. Great for a baby, not so appealing for a toddler/big girl. We are the family that bought the matching furniture. I was young, what can I say! I'm looking forward to repainting what furniture she does have, and on the hunt for some new special pieces. I want it to be bright, happy and fun. Something that she can grow in for years to come. Also, I am 100 percent sure there will be a chalkboard wall in there somewhere. And I will find and paint metal lockers if it's the death of me! I bought a few blueprint copies over the weekend and it already feels like a different space! I can't wait to finish it all. ps, You can see her standing on her new bed, in all her proudness in the instagram pictures on my sidebar!

OUR BEDROOM: GATHERING INSPIRATION

I mentioned it last week that we are planning to redo/revamp a few rooms in our home. The number one on  my list is our bedroom. Let me preface by saying, we live in a rental space that is under 800 square feet. We've lived in this home for pretty much all of our adult lives so far...a whopping 3 years. Stephen and I both had very weird home-y type furniture in our own rooms before we moved out. I bought a yellow/mustard vintage sofa when I was 14 because I loved it so much. I kept it in my room up until I moved out. Stephen had an entire entertainment center. Like middle console for TV etc, and two very tall towers that stood next to either side to house his rather large record collection. So when we moved in together, being 18 and 21,  we pretty much had furniture and no reason (ahem money) to buy new things.

This has taken a toll on almost everything in our home. We've accumulated things here and there we needed, but for the most part, all of our furniture is either hand-me-downed, gifted, or something we already had. Nothing goes together completely the way I want it to, but right now we make it work. Somehow in the spirit of make things work our room turned into to a giant collection of blue, orange, and whatever else we could find. There isn't anything particularly wrong with it, and I am amazed by the amount of things that go with this scheme we have in our home, it's just not what I want.

I've been gathering ideas and inspiration for this room for months now, but putting together a visual really helps! I'm more excited than ever to get started on this project. I can't wait to share before and after photos of it all. First and foremost, we must get to an ikea! Can you believe I've never been?

Deliciously Sew at Mule Day

*silly face*

I'm partial, but I think this is the.cutest.booth ever! What do you think? This past Saturday DS packed up and headed an hour out of town at 6 in the morning to Mule Day. Apparently, it's a big thing. The booth next to us was from Iowa! I had only ever been once before, and it was nothing like I remembered. When we got there it was pitch black, and freezing cold. We tried our best to set up quickly, but our hands were pretty numb. (Note to self: bring gloves to next event!) Mule Day houses over 450 booths and draws in between 60,000 and 90,000 people. Wow, that's a lot! I'm pretty sure there were at least 60K. I saw so many people. If that isn't enough exposure, I don't know what is!

The Facebook fans had a little incentive and received a free gift if they mentioned liking us on Facebook. Free cakepops! We improved upon our old display times like a thousand. It is much more visually appealing, and we didn't have any grown men chasing bows across fields this time. I'd say that is a plus! I'm sure the guys would too! We added a lot of cuteness to our inventory for this show: onesies, necklaces, more headbands, mini + regular plushies, chalkboards. We added another flavor of whoopie pie to this event (vanilla with chocolate filling) and boy could I tell you a million and one stories about that! I'll just say for the record, YES, you can eat them. NO, they aren't ceramic hamburgers. and NO, they aren't magnets. We're already planning on how we can make the DS booth even better for the next show we have. We have about a month to perfect it even more. The future of Deliciously Sew includes opening an etsy and continuing with craft shows and fairs. It's slowly growing more and more, and that's so exciting!

We're going to the fair tonight, I'm so excited! Funnel cake, watch out. xo, Meghan ♥

Busy Bee!

Today has been a busy one. Dakota and I ran errands all day, making stops at Micheal's, Target, Bed Bath + Beyond, and Walmart. Phew! But oh no, the doing didn't stop there. We made vanilla whoppie pies and pumpkin whoopie pies. Spray painted some stuff, and then spray painted even more stuff. Made some soup, and then ate it. I made an owl plush while Dakota was napping, and she's still kind of sad that the fun went on without her ;) But when she woke up to her surprise, we still had more to do! I kind of have "should" be doing right now.

I'm telling you all of this, not in hopes that you'll feel sorry for me (because it was such a fun day!) but that you'll wonder, even ask yourselves why "why is she doing all of those busy tasks?" I'll tell you why! DS (Deliciously Sew) has another event! Another Craft show, and I'm so excited. Why haven't I shared this before now!? Anyway, it's kind of a big event in the South Georgia/North Florida area. It's called Mule Day, and there isn't a whole lot of info or even an address out there, but if you're in the area/familiar with Mule Day you should come! There are hundreds of booths and most all of the stuff is crafted by hand. Birdhouses, trashcans, swings, you name it, they have it. If you're a fan on Facebook, we're going to be offering a special for the Mule Day event, but to fans only. Or if you're on the mailing list!  If you want to see what our crafty hands have been up to, we've uploaded a bunch of new items. Check it out!

*cute tiny owl plushies*

I'm off to take more pictures, then decorate caramel apples + whoopie pies with Angela. These next two days will be busy busy, but so fun. It's Thursday, one day away from the weekend...yay! xo, Meghan

Fridays are for:

I apologize, last Friday I had planned to post my favorite things from that week, but we were out of town, and couldn't get internet service, in Atlanta....shame. Anyway, I'd like to show you some lovely things inspiring me this Friday!

Do you ever get the itch? The itch that stops you dead in your tracks. It can come from spending time on pinterest, browsing blogs or looking at magazines. The absolute dire need to put down whatever it is you're doing and redecorate. I have that itch! I'm in the mood, especially with this cooler weather, to cozy-fy my home and make it warm and inviting. A few spaces I'm loving:

This kitchen! *swoon* Mine is blues + reds also, and I just think that color combo is so charming!

This picture display has me dreaming up ideas. The possibilities are endless!

This wonderful 'up-do' of a mid century piece!

this wall of pretties is...., well, pretty!

and for the one day future baby, miss or mister-the salmon could easily be swapped for a more gender neutral color.

this entire living room shut.up!

One day I will have a fridge just like that! And um, hello scalloped + stripe-y goodness!

What are your main sources of inspiration? Hope you have an inspiring Friday!

Dressing for a cause

This little gem is not only adorable, but it's stirring up a lot of buzz for all the right reasons. This Frocktober dress is a representation of all the lovely ladies standing up for research finding a cure for ovarian cancer. I think that the whole idea is just brilliant, and I want to be a part. The sweet Miss Kaelah and the stylin' Miss Jen both styled this dress and have me coveting one! Even if you don't want to dress the part, make a donation and learn more about how you can help.

Wanna be even more of a help? Check out these ideas and be a part of the bigger picture! I'm particularly fond of the frock swap and the morning/afternoon teas myself. Anyone want to team up with me? :)

Rediscovered Art.

{see the rest here}

So I have recently found my stash of cards as I used to call them. I probably have 30 or so, and they're just sitting in a box. 5 of my favorites are matted, but not framed. I used them in my AP Portfolio art class in high school, otherwise, those probably wouldn't be partially framed either. I don't think I have enough leisure time to mat and frame them, a. because I don't have a paper cutter, and b. because I don't want 30+ frames in my house.

My question for you is: how should I display these? Should they all be randomly distributed throughout the house? Because that's how the 5 that are "framed" are displayed now. But I really enjoy looking at these, so I want to be able to see them often. Should they all be on some mass collaboration? HELP! It's been years and I haven't done anything with them, boo.

Hope you have a great Monday and feel inspired!

Are you a fan of lovely dresses? A fan of FREE dresses? A fan of lovely, free dresses? Do you see what I'm getting at here? Then this is some news for you! The sweet Venessa at The Velvet Bird is giving away one of her gorgeous dresses to one lucky gal! I am over the moon. I've already instructed Bean that I need one of these dresses for Christmas. Really I need all of them, but I suppose one shall have to do. You should head on over to her blog, as if you don't already read it!, and enter to win.

Lola Throws a Party  in pumpkin plaid

If I won, I'd pick one of the dresses above. Although I've made Bean promise he'd get me the Lola Sings the Blues for Christmas. Fingers-crossed for all who enter. Even if you, or I don't win, you should get a dress from her anyway. They're all so beautiful!

3 Goals

This week has been a busy one around these parts! This weekend will be no different! Two special people are having birthdays back-to-back, and the craft show is Saturday! I'm so excited about all three things! I haven't posted very much this week because, well, I am soooo busy! I spent a good chunk of my night last night editing/scanning pictures for something special and writing a few of my posts ahead of time! Just because I know if I hadn't of done that, I'd be freaking out trying to fit it in, and if I couldn't fit it in, I'd be freaking out that I didn't already have it done. (the way I think!) I just wanted to sit down and honestly write 3 goals for going into this weekend ahead of me. I do this often when I have something that I really need to get focused about, and it has proven helpful. So I'll give it a go again!

  1. Less Stress, Less Mess: I tend to stress myself to the max when I have a deadline or have an important party coming up and honestly it doesn't do anybody good. I get upset very easily and snap at people for silly reasons and after the fact end up feeling very guilty because the whole situation could have been avoided. All in all, less stress makes it easier to do the tasks at hand.
  2. You can't do it all: You really can't. I set expectations much higher than I ever should and make extravagant lists detailing everything I know I MUST  need to make this party a success, or make this event even better. Frankly, the party doesn't need matching tablecloth cups, napkins, decor, etc. And the event doesn't need a popcorn machine to attract people! (Just examples!) What I'm trying to say is that yes, everything could be BETTER, but does it  be need to? I need to assess my "top needs" when I am faced with things like this and really use my best judgement. Because if I put it on the list, chances are I'm going to need to cross it off, and if I can't get to it, I'll feel awful about myself and end up stressing. ^see above.
  3. Enjoy!: That seems a little silly to say, but it's truth! 9 times out of 10 if there's something I've been working on (say a party) I'm too busy stressing and trying to do it all (see 1 + 2) that I don't take time to enjoy what I HAVE accomplished and spend time with the people I love or spend time doing what I love. Which is not okay. I really need to work on this!
There you have it, my 3 attainable goals for going into this weekend! If I stay less stressed and realize I can't do it all, then I'll be able to enjoy myself...which is what I want to do! I urge you to make a list too if you feel that you need some balance! Or just because lists are fun! Happy Thursday.

Home Alone

Tonight while Bean is away, I will be spending my time eating pizza, crafting, painting (for DS yay!), and watching Monk on Netflix. I'm excited to stay up a little late and do some fun stuff in prep for next weekend. I'm missing Bean, but he will be home tomorrow, so it's A-Okay. Did I mention that I bought 3 bags of candy corns to fill up my glass pumpkin today? No? Well I did and Dakota LOVES them! I wouldn't be surprised if they're gone in just a few days. Between her and I, there's no telling.

Hope your Friday night is inspiring!

On the Run

As of late, late as in this past weekend, I realized how much I miss running. I ran Cross Country, leisurely and somewhat competitively, in high school up until my senior year and then I quit. Why did I quit again? Still trying to come up with an excuse. Fast forward 3 years and here I am just now getting back into it. What is wrong with me! I have been dilly-dallying at the gym jogging and (trying to) run on the elliptical but never really took it seriously until now. Yesterday I put on my big girl sneakers and went for a run! I came home feeling pumped, mainly due to my awesome tune selection--thanks Bean!, and ready to take on the world. I know that sounds silly but it really can make you feel better. And you know what? I did it again today! I just got back and I feel great.  I've been waiting to run until later when after Dakota is already sound asleep and it's nice. It's dark, no one else is really out, and it's much cooler than in the middle of the day. The only down side to it is that while running later helps me get sound sleep, it doesn't help me get to sleep. I didn't fall asleep until after 1 in the morning!! That is a no go for a mama with a baby that likes to wake up early. But as much as I wish I was a girl who could get up at 5 in the morning and be ready to go get her workout on, I know I am not that girl. I would really have to push myself, hard. I guess that there are still a few bugs to work out with my routine, but I'm just happy to be back! If any of you running mamas out there have any advice, I'd looove to hear it! Leave a comment or send me a tweet.

I'll be back in a bit with a few loose ends to 'tie up'!

Something Lovely + an Update

It's true, you are so so lovely. Hi and happy Thursday! Thursday is only one day away from Friday, and Friday is the weekend! I love the weekends because we get to spend lots of time together as a family! We've been hooked on watching Friday Night Lights this week and I'm pretty sure we'll be putting a dent into this season this weekend. It's the perfect mix of love, sports, and drama!

Update News: (!!!) It's so exciting to say that Deliciously Sew has update news! We've finally got all of our business ducks in a row, and now we're just waiting for our creative ducks to follow. AKA, we've gotten all of our business taken care of, now we just need to practice our table set up. We're still kickin' it with the Facebook, so go like us if you haven't yet! We have some events set up for the near future, so keep your eyes peeled! You can hear all the news first via our facebook, but I promise I'll blog about it too. This whole experience is exciting!

Fall is here! (in spirit)

It's September! And the start of fall! With that comes so many of my favorite things: long evening walks, layers, trick-er-treating in our beautiful neighborhood, Bean's birthday, trying to win the cutest fall decorated house, tights, costume contests, more thrifting, the fair, football season, apples and pine cones, pumpkin spice lattes and all lattes for that matter! It's safe to say that September through February are my most favorite months, and when the leaves and temperatures change so do I. Kurt Cobain said it best (my secret love) said it best: "Weather changes moods." I find myself feeling refreshed and inspired!

Don't get me wrong, I love summertime as much as any other gal! The carefree spirit that it brings, but fall brings in a sense of togetherness and family. Thanksgiving being the center of it all. Something is just so heartwarming about cold weather, people you love, blankets, warm drinks, yummy food, and cozy clothes!

It's a whopping 79 degrees and it's not even noon yet. By then it is predicted to be 94. Not very fall-ish is it? Fall doesn't really start in Florida until late October, early November. Not soon enough, if you ask me mother nature!  So until fall decides to slowly creep in, I'll just remember my love affair with it and patiently await it's much wanted return!

Has fall started anywhere else? I'm jealous!

Sunday Funday, on a Monday

This little scripture has been heavy on my heart the last few days, and I just thought I'd share. Praise Jesus for never giving up on me! And that typography is just so pretty, love.

I didn't get a chance to blog yesterday because I was so busy snapping photos for Deliciously Sew! Angela and myself spent a good chunk of the afternoon into the evening taking photos and ordering packaging supplies etc. We played with a lot of props and different scenes and I can't wait to show you! We even created our business paypal, although that was quite the ordeal. All we need to do now is decided where we will set up shop! (facebook, try and sell local, etsy, all of the above, etc.) Everything is coming together and we both couldn't be more excited!

*how cute is she running away with our basket?*
